Objetive: | To update health professionals with the latest information on breastfeeding for application in clinical practice and promotion both among the population and in the health sector. Breastfeeding in Mexico has been considered a public health issue; despite gains in recent years, the rate is still low, having risen from 14.1% of women who lactated exclusively in 2012 to 28.6% according to the latest National Health and Nutrition Survey in 2018. One of the main etiologies for this situation is the lack of training and poor in-hospital practices that lead to a low production of human milk and thus, the mother's decision not to breastfeed. Training health professionals has been identified as one of the pillars for successful breastfeeding. |
